Clonmacnoise is a facscinating early Christian site dating back almost 1, 500 years. Once the burial place of many of the Kings of Connaught and Tara, the Site was founded by St Ciaran in the 6th Century and includes the ruins of a cathedral, eight churches, two round towers, three high crosses and a large collection of early Christian Graves.
Visitors can enjoy an audiovisual show as well as a number of exhibitions. It is located 21 km (approximately a forty minute drive) from Athlone - on the River Shannon. Signposted from the N62 - Clonmacnoise is open daily from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
