GREEN POLICY AT THE ATHLONE SPRINGS HOTEL

Here at the Athlone Springs Hotel, we are committed to minimising the negative impact we have on the environment daily and are determined to play our part in building a sustainable future. We are making a conscious effort to be more eco-friendly in the day-to-day running of our business. We have employed measures such as waste reduction, resource management and cost reductions, to name but a few. We understand the benefits of Green Tourism and the importance of implementing practices and small feasible changes within our business that will inevitably protect the environment and enhance our natural surroundings.

Please see below a number of initiatives that we have implemented to play a part in promoting good environmental practices:

Waste Management: Segregation of recycled materials, general waste and compost. Our kitchen team recently took part in an experiment to reduce our food waste.

Energy Conservation: In the midst of a global energy crisis, we recognise the importance of conserving energy where possible and this involves actively switching off lights, closing windows when the heating is on and turning off air conditioning units where they are not needed.

Local Community Support: We work with a number of local charities and organisations by providing meeting spaces, assisting in fundraisers and offering support where necessary.

We are determined to become a plastic-free hotel and have taken steps to enforce this across the hotel. For example, we only serve paper straws in our food and beverage areas and no longer use bottled water in our conferencing suites.

We have a low-voltage outdoor charging facility which is complimentary for hotel guests with electric vehicles to use. It is located at the side of the main car park, near the Leisure Centre.

We support local suppliers and businesses for our fruit and vegetables where possible. We use a local company for all of our breakfast products. This reduces miles in food travels. We make all our desserts ourselves in the hotel.
