CROÍ NA HÉIREANN FESTIVAL
This year the Croí na hÉireann Festival takes place from March 16th to March 20th inclusive. This five day festival will be hosting the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which is expected to draw large attendance and create an atmosphere not witnessed along the streets of Athlone in three years. There’s a range of events taking place over the long weekend including an American football match, a ceilí mór, a trout fishing competition, an art exhibition, a scavenger hunt for kids, historical walks and the showpiece attraction and the traditional St. Patrick’s Parade which is taking place on Sunday 20th March.
With more activities to be confirmed in due course, the Croí na hÉireann festival is perfect for the whole family. “This will be the first festival to be hosted in Athlone since the easing of public health restrictions. Our community needs a lift and we hope to provide this for them. The parade, on March 20, will be the finale of the festival and a spectacle of amazing floats, marching bands and community groups is guaranteed” Cllr Frankie Keena states.
