Clonmacnoise is a World Heritage Site located approx. 25 minutes from Athlone. Clonmacnoise is an early Christian site founded in the 6th Century located on the shores of the River Shannon. Clonmacnoise can be reached either by car or alternatively take a cruise from Athlone to Clonmacnoise and a bus back to Athlone for a delightful day out. The site includes the ruins of a Cathedral, seven churches, round towers, high crosses and the largest collection of Early Christian graveslabs in Western Europe.
