DAY 1 – WELCOME TO ATHLONE

A warm welcome awaits you at the Athlone springs Hotel.

Arrive to the hotel a little early and make use our Leisure Centre Facilities with our 20 metre pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and kiddie’s pool.

Check in from 4:00pm and enjoy your new surroundings.

Visit our family friendly Cedar restaurant and enjoy dinner and drinks.

Day 2 – A DAY ON GLENDEER PET FARM

Rise and Shine for an early breakfast in our family friendly Cedar restaurant.

Situated in the countryside, less than a ten minute drive from the Athlone Springs Hotel is Glendeer Pet Farm, a family run farm with animals of all different types from Emu’s, Puppies, Alpaca’s and so much more.

While the kids are burning off some energy in the outdoor or indoor playgrounds, mums and dads can have a well-earned rest with a takeaway tea/coffee and a nice treat.

Later that evening why not Sip and Savour the atmosphere while dining in our spacious Secret Garden (weather dependent of course).

Day 3 – MAKE A SPLASH

Enjoy a nice and relaxing breakfast in our Cedar restaurant.

Leave the car behind and avail of the bus from outside the hotel and make your way to Viking Tours where Viking Mike is waiting patiently to take you on your sea journey!

From the Athlone Springs hotel and less than a ten minute journey you will arrive at Viking Tours.

It’s the perfect way to get everyone out on the water.

If you are looking for thrill and adventure, a trip to the Mid Adventure Ireland is the perfect choice for you to discover the best of Irelands Hidden Heartlands. Make your way to Banagher, about a forty minute drive from the Athlone Springs Hotel where adventure awaits you. Choose from mountain biking up the Slieve Bloomm Mountains located in the quaint and beautiful village of Kinnitty, a guided Paddle Boarding, Kayaking or Archery.

Afterwards dine in our newly refurbished family friendly Cedar restaurant.

Day 4 – STEP BACK IN TME AND SOAK UP THE AFTERNOON 

Relax and unwind with your breakfast in our Cedar restaurant.

Make a day of it and leave the car behind while you venture into Athlone Castle on the bus from outside the hotel. Athlone Castle is less than 5km from the Athlone Springs Hotel.

Explore the secrets and stories and tales of battle and bloodlust from Athlone Castle which is strategically located at a crossing point on the River Shannon.

Or spend an afternoon at a spectacular monastery on the banks of the river Shannon at Clonmacnoise.

Clonmacnoise is located in Shannonbridge, Co. Offaly and is about a thirty minute drive from the Athlone Springs Hotel.

There are two ways you can visit Clonmacnoise, the first is by car and the second is by water.

You can climb on board the infamous Viking Boat Tours that cruise along the Shannon and stop off at Clonmacnoise – a very enjoyable experience and more breathtaking at sunset.

The Monastic Site of Clonmacnoise is located on the banks of the Shannon and is renowned throughout the country for its three high crosses and its informative visitor center.

Later that evening, relax and unwind in our spacious Cedar Brasserie.

Day 5 – FAMILY DAY HIKERS PICNIC 

Rise and shine for an early breakfast in our Cedar restaurant.

Grab a picnic for your day ahead, whether you are walking along the shores of the River Shannon, feeling energetic and fancy a cycle on the Greenway or simply looking to enjoy the fresh air while you explore Athlone’s local trek and trail routes.

The below trek and trail routes are some of the most popular here in Athlone.

Old Rail Trail

The Old Rail Trail is a ‘must’ cycle for anyone who likes getting out on their bike. The Old Rail Trail or the Greenway as it is often called is from Mullingar to Athlone will take you along 40km of biking heaven. This dedicated cycle path follows the old rail track under arched bridges, through a tunnel and past beautiful countryside. With lots of entry and exit points, you can hop on and off to explore the villages and attractions along the way.

Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park

There is a whole day of fantastic activities in store for visitors of all ages at Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park, make sure it is on your to do list!

Leave the car behind and head into Athlone Town with your picnic to discover the Shannon Banks Nature Trail.

This nature trail walk starts at the rear of Athlone Castle and is approximately 5kms long. It is a looped bi-directional walk which takes you along the banks of the River Shannon and the old Athlone Canal.

Along the trail you will get to see flora, fauna, wildlife and fish that are along the walk.

Belvedere house

Belvedere House and Gardens are located in Mullingar, County Westmeath, less than a 40 minute drive from the Athlone Springs Hotel. Here you will find a Victorian Walled Garden, an Enchanted Glen and Parklands with woodland trails through the ancient wood. There are 4 children’s play areas featuring towers, slides, climbing frames, lakeside swings and a 30 metre Zipline at the lakeshore!
